Tyler Brulé, Editor-in-Chief of Monocle intends for this book to serve as inspiration to readers visiting Japan. Illustrator Satoshi Hashimoto, one of Monocle’s regular artists offers delightful and vivid six-page drawings of Japanese archipelago. It is a wonderful souvenir book, offering glimpses of Japanese life through exquisite photography and brief explanations. Covering everything from J-Pop, fashion and, of course, food – all aspects of modern Japanese life is explored. In addition to local culture, there are sections on transport, hospitality, business, retail, design, and architecture. In addition to this, there is a section entitled Meet the People, which features firefighters, coastguards, a karate kid, a taxi driver and many others.
