About this book
Hilma af Klint, an unknown Swedish artist, stipulated in her will in 1944 that there be no exhibition until 20 years after her death, and furthermore that her 1,300 paintings and 125 notebooks formed a whole body of work never be separated. Having never laid eyes on her paintings during her lifetime, her first international exhibition held in Stockholm in 2013 astounded the world. Her paintings combine scientific illustration, geometry, colour theory, and linguistics with a Theosophical appreciation for organic forms. As seen in her most celebrated works, such as Paintings for the Temple, af Klint dedicated her life to transmuting the spiritual realm into art for meditative study - painted through her with invisible force – a divine dictation. Her paintings were not, and still are not for sale.
