Hong Kong’s first specialist lacquer gallery is dedicated to promoting this ancient Asian craft. First established in 2011 and now settled within the design mecca of Hollywood Road, “SOIL” nods to the mission of its founder, Susanna Pang: to provide a fertile ground for cultivating traditional handicrafts and bringing both antique and new works to a wider audience.

A highlight of JOYCE Art Month, this exclusive event invites SOIL curator Susanna Pang to lead a craft dialogue on lacquer’s new wave, highlighting artists embracing new materials and techniques. Special focus on modern master, Sakurako Matsushima: a multimedia celebration delves into her philosophy and creative process. With a live demonstration of Kintsugi, Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer blended with silver and gold.
