WELCOMES COLVILLE COLLECTIVE

JOYCE RECEIVES VISIT FROM THE RADICAL THINKERS LEADING UK-BASED COLVILLE – A BRAND THAT IS TURNING FASHION CULTURE ON ITS HEAD

This August, the creators of Colville collective pay a visit to JOYCE Hong Kong to present the Fall/ Winter 2019 collection.

When a brand chooses to have a ‘Manifesto’ in place of an ‘About’ section on their website – it is clear that the minds behind it have a statement to make. These three minds in question belong to former British Vogue fashion director and stylist Lucinda Chambers and Marni designers Molly Molloy and Kristin Forss. Their thinking is this:

Additive thinking. A sum of individualities addressing a plurality of individuals.

Colville is the creative encounter between three different minds and three personal points of view. A sum, not a mix. The irregular and the imperfect put-together are integral to the outcome: a collection that’s a sum of pieces, that is eclectic and idiosyncratic.

Clothes to be worn, cherished, mixed and matched. Clothes that are bold and brave, considered and careful, sensitive and detailed. Clothes that are real: addends to a lasting discourse.

Pieces can be assembled, disassembled, reassembled, following individual whims. Putting the unexpected together. Not one way to wear it, but as many as there are viewpoints.

Hunters and gatherers, odd and individual: so are our women. Building their own reality as a product of the imagination, and living it.

And so the manifesto continues – but the overarching message is clear: an emphasis on freedom of expression and independence within plurality.

Named after Notting Hill’s Colville Terrace, an area of West London frequented by the likes of David Hockney, it is clear from the outset that Colville seeks to embrace and encapsulate culture and the arts. With two accomplished designers and a renowned stylist joining forces to create the brand, they seek to further “subvert the familiar” by collaborating with a host of artists, photographers and jewellery designers.

Describing themselves as the ‘antithesis of fast fashion’, Colville is in it for the long run. A contemporary brand with a passion for innovation and the unexpected – the label is an emotional response to designing a wardrobe that has both individuality and longevity. Producing collections that incorporate both meticulous tailoring, as well as extreme femininity, their latest collection is no exception. Displaying bold colour clashes, expressive prints and unique fabrics, pieces fit together like an imperfect jigsaw puzzle.

Colville Fall / Winter 19 Colville’s third season includes oversize double cashmere knits sit alongside long, feminine print dresses. Tiny shell tops beneath massive trench coats. Draped dresses made modern by the signature Colville Tee. The collection combines luxury grunge with Colville’s signature up-cycled elements-such as sports sleeve jackets, multi coloured neckpieces and hats. Chunky velvet boots make everything sane and keep it real-but the colours don’t. The pieces are personal and timeless-and combine to create an effortless style.
