RICK OWENS FW19 COLLECTION

Rick Owens presented his Fall/Winter 2019 collection at Paris’ Palais De Tokyo in a more low-key style than Spring/Summer 2019‘s runway complete with burning pyre. The show — which featured front row appearances from Kid Cudi, Takashi Murakami and more — was lit by a 1940s military light used in the Second World War as a reminder that despite all of society’s shortcomings, things could always be much worse for us.
The collection was titled “Larry,” a tribute to American designer Larry Legaspi, who worked with musicians like Labelle & KISS — Owens frequently cited Legaspi as an influence in the past. The nods to Legaspi’s output extended to KISS’s signature lightning bolt motif, which accented nylon vests and outerwear.
A number of signature Owens touches surfaced throughout the range, including black padded coats, dark Japanese selvedge denim and towering platform boots. Owens also collaborated with Parisian vegan sneaker brand Veja for less imposing footwear. The new sneaker collaboration comes 18 months after the California-by-way-of-France designer ended his long-running relationship with adidas.
