JOYCE partners with Japanese label MIHARAYASUHIRO to open a pop up store at JOYCE Gallery in the elegant Palais Royal, Paris.
JOYCE Gallery has held various exhibitions on contemporary art and fashion over the years. The latest project transforms the gallery into a pop-up store, showcasing the MIHARAYSUHIRO Spring Summer 2013 men’s and women’s collections. The sleek interior is decorated with the famous Japanese cherry blossoms, “sakura” and a floor mural featuring abstract strokes and splashes of paint, an ode to the beauty of nature, particularly the butterfly, which is the inspiration of this season's women’s collection.
Designer Mihara Yasuhiro developed the collection with the aid of the Los Angeles based contemporary artist Bette Ridgeway, who was the recipient of the 2012 Chianciano International Art Award. Ridgeway's work focuses on colour, space, time and emotions, and first captured Mihara’s imagination with her unique gift of expressing freedom and joy. Ridgeway’s paintings are created using a technique of layering thin, transparent and colourful strokes of acrylics that become fluid and offer movement, similar to that of a butterfly. Mihara captured the freedom and happiness of a butterfly through this beautiful collection, which enhances individuality and confidence for the modern day woman.
As for the men’s collection, Mihara took inspiration from David Lynch`s classic film `Wild At Heart`. He re-interprets the snakeskin blazer given to the protagonist at the beginning of the film into over-sized and embossed textured t-shirts, shorts and shirts. Animal instincts run throughout the collection in bright blue python loafers and crocodile embossing on the arms of t-shirts. The mix of classic Americana with a wild edge defines the MIHARAYASUHIRO collection for SS13. Another highlight of the collection is the discovery of new ways to disguise and manipulate fabrics, which is apparent in the deconstructed biker jackets, footwear, and accessories.
MIHARAYASUHIRO Pop-Up store at JOYCE Paris Gallery until 20th March, 2013.
