NEW CONCEPT JOYCE GENTLEMEN LAUNCHES WITH CELEBRATED MENSWEAR STYLIST WILLIAM GILCHRIST
For over four decades, JOYCE has provided the most discerning of Asia's male population with cutting edge fashion from designers around the globe. This season, JOYCE launches a new offering for Men’s dressing: JOYCE Gentlemen. This new concept will be available to customers in JOYCE Central and JOYCE Harbour City stores, offering pieces with a story, that show respect for materials, cut and finish.
The range celebrates designers and craftsmen who question the rules, who have made subtle deviations to elevate wardrobe staples. Above all, the selection puts the shape, fit and drape of a garment at the heart of this concept. This theory can be compared “to the Italian Renaissance: to put the body at the center of all design; it’s humanism, and in humanism the human figure is always the key.”

Many of these brands derive from heritage brands that have embraced the subtleties of modern tailoring. During their search, JOYCE buyers have singled out three suiting brands of Italian origin:
Cifonelli - Founded in 1880 by legendary tailor Giuseppe Cifonelli of Rome. After relocating to Paris in 1926, and at one time commissioned to create bespoke suits for Hermes, Cifonelli now masterfully combines the best of French tradition, Italian lightness and English structuralism in the ready to wear collection.
Attolini (exclusive to JOYCE Central) - Established by Vincenzo Attolini in 1930s Naples. Rewriting the rules of the then restrictive English tailoring unsuited to the Italian climate, Attolini is the inventor of Neapolitan suits with softer shoulders, high armholes and slim lines. Now inherited by his grandsons Giuseppe and Massimilano Attolini, the brand continues to uphold a proud family tradition.
Caruso - Since 1958, master tailor Raphaele Caruso’s studio has benefitted from merging advancements in industrial technology and traditional Italian tailoring. Only the highest quality materials are used to create pieces that rethink sartorial elegance in men’s tailoring. Now led by Umberto Angeloni, the acclaimed studio, produces made to measure suits for Lanvin and Thom Browne, as well as their own brand now to be found in JOYCE Gentleman.
Extending beyond suiting, the JOYCE Gentlemen portfolio offers head-to-toe dressing for all occasions. Elegant Neapolitan shirts by Salvatore Piccolo are joined by quality shirts by artisanal Bolzonella 1934. The concept includes shoes and accessories by La Portegna and Soloviere. Customers will find added versatility in the new offering with basic wear brands such as Monitaly and exclusive seasonal projects with brands such as Casablanca 1942 footwear and British brand Grenfell’s luxury outerwear.
JOYCE Gentlemen launches with a visit from celebrated menswear stylist William Gilchrist. Known for dressing none other than the iconic Rolling Stones, Gilchrist shares his experience in the fashion industry and the secrets of his signature sophisticated nonchalance. Up Close with Wiliam Gilchrist will take place at Upper House on the evening of 19 April, to be combined with a three-day style clinic and introduction to dressing today’s versatile, bohemian gentleman (21 – 23 April at JOYCE Central). ABOUT WILLIAM GILCHRIST
William Gilchrist was born in Henley, England and studied Fashion Design at the London College of Fashion. After showing two collections in London, he moved to Milan in 1990 and began styling in 1991. His first work was for Per Lui led to collaborations with Arena magazine where he became Fashion Editor. Since then he has boasted esteemed positions as Art/Fashion Director of Sportswear International, JACK magazine, and Details magazine in New York City where he also collaborated with J Crew. Gilchrist has collaborated in the building of the brand Oliver Spencer and is currently working on the launch of a new brand yet to be announced. He has contributed to GQ, O Man, GQ Style and L’Uomo Vogue and consulted for numerous brands such as Versace, Moschino, McQueen Menswear, Giorgio Armani, Dunhill and Belstaff. Gilchrist has also had many illustrious clients in the entertainment industry such as Jude Law, Benicio de Toro, Gerard Butler, and for many years has dressed members of The Rolling Stones for their world tours.
