sacai debuts first bag collection

sacai announces the launch of the house’s first bag collection. Comprising 6 styles, in multiple colour and fabric combinations, from canvas through finely crafted leathers to exotic skins including crocodile and mink, the collection explores recognisable bag archetypes, cut and spliced using sacai’s signature ‘hybrid’ aesthetic to create something new.

Designer Chitose Abe: " My goal was to create a bag collection that distilled the spirit of sacai and that I’d be excited to wear myself. For a woman, a bag is such an important part of her identity, so I wanted to create a collection that is an authentic expression of luxury but that brings something new to what is already a very busy category – a modern, playful version of true luxury."

British designer Katie Hillier has helped interpret Abe’s vision, bringing to the collection her wealth of specialized bag expertise.

A classic Coin Purse is combined with a Duffel Bag, and embellished with a modular 3-piece strap of tubular handle, chain and shoulder strap elements. Further styles include a traditional horseshoe coin purse, supersized and re-purposed as a cross body bag; while a utilitarian satchel flap is re-contextualised on a classical frame bag construction. The classic tote silhouette is animated in two sizes with a satchel flap, and a vintage military dry-bag is oversized to create a multifunctional tote, shoulder or cross-body bag.

A play on textures juxtaposes smooth and grained leathers, mixed with suede. Mink and crocodile present the ultimate luxury iteration. A rich, spare palette of classical black, navy and ‘sacai’ blue is interspersed with accents of bright green and orange.
