JOYCE CABINET, LOCATED AT THE NEWLY RENOVATED JOYCE CENTRAL, IS PLEASED TO PRESENT “THE TREASURE” BY ARTIST CHRISTOPHE COPPENS.
To commemorate the opening of the recent renovation at New World Tower, JOYCE has partnered with the Belgian artist known for his handicraft for couture accessories, commissioning a special project for the occasion.
“The Treasure” is an exhibition centered on the discovery of artifacts from a civilization dreamed up by Coppens called The People of the Fountains. The experience opens with a vibrant water fountain installation at the entrance of JOYCE Central. Imagining The People of the Fountains as current inhabitants in the City of Angeles, Coppens presents objects and jewelry as if illuminated from the culture and customs of a long undiscovered civilization. Each piece of work is a unique handmade piece, representing his mastery of craftsmanship and couture. The full collection of wearable art is available for purchase from 18 August – 18 September in the newly launched JOYCE Cabinet at JOYCE Central.
Once upon a not-so-long-time ago, there lived a group of sympathetic souls who called themselves, The People of the Fountains.
They roamed the streets and parks of the City of Angeles in the Land of California, jumping into fountains and dancing the long, soft, summery nights away.
And they practiced other curious rituals. As, for every important life event that arose, they made themselves a mask or piece of jewelry with whatever was at hand at that moment.
For loss, for love, to make a wish or to bring about change. No occasion was too large, or too small.
They very much liked to have fun, these people. Anything for laughter and the pursuit of happiness. They adored circuses and dressing up dolls, candy and cake, support and understanding. Their sense of empathy was notorious.
This was long before the World Wide Web, when people still gathered to communicate with less distraction. They simply went forth and made things happen. For one another and anyone that might cross their paths…
In 2016, after decades of dedicated exploration, Christophe Coppens and his team finally found their hidden Treasure. The team honed in on a sacred hide-out and dug up a long buried hoard in the hills of L.A. A Treasure believed long lost, turned out to be the true effects of The People of the Fountains.
And now, at JOYCE Central exclusively, these pieces will be on display to the public for the first time since their discovery.
