Xenophilia

10 Jul 2017

Themes such as orientalism, chinoiserie and meditation, are key in Ximon Lee's SS18 collection, a Study of Xenophilia.

Xenophilia, alongside its antonym, xenophobia are very current concepts in today’s society. Indeed, xenophilia is an attraction or love of foreign people, manners or culture while xenophobia is a fear of strangers.

Those subjects have been visually showcased through the deconstruction and reconstruction of old oriental rugs including modern Chinese tattoos characters. The underlying message is the cultural appropriation in modern language, colonialism and imperialism.

The exhibition curated by Ximon Lee will also include photography by Timothy Schaumburg.
